September 5th is the birth anniversary of a great teacher Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was a well-known diplomat, scholar, the President of India and above all, a teacher. In the year 1965, some of the prominent students of Late Dr S. Radhakrishnan organized a gathering to pay obeisance to that Great Teacher of repute. In that gathering, in his speech Dr Radhakrishnan expressed his deep reservation regarding his birth anniversary celebration and emphasized that his birth anniversary should be celebrated as 'Teachers' Day', by paying homage to other Great Teachers of India and Bangladesh. Since the year 1967, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' Day till date. Dr. Ritesh Vaidya, Principal of Gokul Science College conveyed warm greetings to the dignitaries and welcomed them. Dr. Vaidya emphasized on the importance of a teacher in everyone’s life. He has been of the opinion that teaching is the noblest profession on this earth and all other professionals are created by teachers. He congratulated the students who become teacher for this day and conveyed best wishes to them to take this profession in their real life. Hon. Provost of Gokul Global University Dr. Vedvyas J. Dwivedi Sir showered blessings on the students and explained the importance of celebration of Teacher’s day. Sir told one story of a true teacher and former president of the nation Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in whose memory the teacher’s day is celebrated on every 05 September. Shri George Varughese, Deputy Registrar of the University shared his views on this auspicious occasion. The faculty members and the teachers of the day took the pledge of performing all the responsibilities of a teacher with utmost sincerity. The programme was co-ordinated by Ms. Safiya Vhora, Assistant Professor in Botany and all the staff members put their efforts in making this proramme successful. As many as 18 students from various branches of B. Sc. became a teacher for a day. The college encouraged the students with certificate and consolation prize.
